Umar learns to drive

AudiFinally got my hands on the steering wheel after almost three months.

After driving in Pakistan and US for over 15 years, I am learning in Dubai how to drive a car.

So today was my first day of training, all I did was circle around the compound for an hour.

My US driver’s license is of no use here. If I had a US passport I could have exchanged my US driver’s license for a UAE license, but I am not that lucky. If my US license were valid for 7 years, I could have directly taken the road test. Turns out my US license was issued around 6 years ago. So no luck for me there as well.

Nevertheless, I was allowed to take 20 classes instead of the usual 40 due to my “previous driving experience”.

Didn’t I say you gotta spend money in Dubai to get things done?

The normal time it takes for the driving classes to start is anywhere between 1 to 3 months. I can’t wait that long. I need a license asap. So I found out about this one driving institute where you can pay double and get your classes started immediately. So I registered yesterday and today I started my day early morning with two classes.

18 more to go. And then the tests. If things go smooth I can have my driver’s license in a month.
