Actually there’s a very good reason why they ask whether you want your hair short. They want to make sure that they dont cut it shorter than you’d like. Because if they cut it shorter, there’s no way to bring it to the length you wanted it.
Regarding number 2, when they say you have beautiful hair, they mean you don’t have dull or drab hair. They are usually commenting on the texture of the hair, not the haircut or length of the hair.
