The art of communication
Yesterday I attended a workshop on the art of communication, human communication that is, not communication between machines, or computers, or electronic devices.
When I was college, the career center organized a workshop on the art of networking. I was so excited to attend the workshop as I thought I would have hands on experience working with various networking protocols and devices. It turned out the workshop was about human networking, not computer networking. Although it was equally valuable, I was bummed to find out there won’t be any routers in the workshop.
So this time I was wise enough to know what the workshop was actually about.
Anyway, it was a nice fun day. The group activities kept everyone involved, and awake. However, some of the activities were pointless.
I learnt few things about myself. I used to believe that I am a good listener. Turns out that I listen to only those I want to. If I am not interested then even if I appear to be listening I am not really listening. I am going to forget everything said to me in few minutes. But if I am really listening with interest then I would remember it forever. Makes sense?
