Starving to death

I feel very sad when people starve themselves during Ramazan. I say starve because they only give up food, and nothing else.

What’s even sadder is that instead of trying to be careful, people start violating the fast with greater authority.

Temper is something that should be controlled the most while you are fasting. Unfortunately, I see people loosing their cool even more easily during Ramazan than any other time. Even minor annoyances are enough to shoot the mercury up.

Don’t even get me started on violation of traffic laws. Where does it say that traffic laws don’t apply to you if you are fasting? Isn’t breaking the laws imposed by government a sin? Doesn’t Islam teach you to stay away from sinful acts during Ramazan? Then why don’t people even try to drive a little more responsibly?

I witness people lying, cheating, and cursing, all in the state of fasting. Does it even not occur to them that they should behave at least for a month?

Ramazan is not only about giving up eating and drinking. In fact, that’s just a minor part of it. Ramazan is about giving up your regular lifestyle and live as God says for a month. A pious lifestyle for a month can take you to heaven. Just starvation would not.

God bless us all.
