Great comments everyone, but I am still waiting to hear thoughts on whether getting up early is worth it or not

There is one Dua of Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and its nearly like this ... "O Allah! give 'barkat' in the morning of my Umaah".

So if you got up early in the morning and start your day with morning Prayer then you will definitely get all the barkat of this Dua. There are lots of other benefits of getting up early as well but this one is most important for me, as there is no doubt for you to be "rise and shine" if this beautiful Dua of your Prophet (SAW) is with you.
  • I'm in the same boat that you are, Umar. I don't enjoy sleeping, either, but once I'm asleep, good luck waking me up. I've given up on trying to get up early. Unless I have an appointment or something, I'll get up when I get up, and I'll go to bed when I go to bed.
  • For me it's not so much that I don't like sleeping. I just always have a hard time going to sleep at night and a hard time waking up in the morning.

Since I've gotten on a more regular schedule for when I wake up, it has gotten much easier to get up in the morning.
  • Yeah, I guess I don't dislike sleeping, but I have a hard time falling asleep. Do you still get up at the scheduled time if you don't fall asleep early enough the night before?
  • Yup! It really helps me get on a schedule. Once your body adjusts, you'll start waking up before your alarm even when you get to sleep hours later than normal. Or at least.. I do :)
  • I love sleeping in, but lately I have found that when I get up early I tend to have energy for more of my day. I think there is something psychological about getting used to being awake when it is sunny out that makes you feel like you should be up and have energy.
If you get used to sleeping in, you will be used to sleeping when it is sunny out. I wonder if there is any research on this?
  • Yeah, it's called your circadian rhythm. Look up 'circadian rhythm sleep disorders' on Wikipedia for more info.
  • I love getting up early and don't really know the meaning of "sleeping in".
  • It is simple and easy. Try to follow this while going to bed.
    1. After a 10 minutes gap from your dinner have 2 cup of water.
    2. While going to bed keep on instruct you brain that i have to wake up by this time. Mostly this would help you a lot.

I followed these 2 steps to start my day at 4.30 in the morning. But now i didn't require anything to wake up me at 4.30

i love to get up late.in my pre married days,i used to get up in afternoon.now it isnt possible as the kids get up and it is my duty to get the kid ready for school etc.you will too when your daughter will be ready for school;)

i think when you have a duty to perform, anything, whether it is to go to school, pray whatever, you will get up no matter what.but than again,i aint a very deep sleeper so its not that difficult for me.
