ready, set, linux!

My first two days of linux system admnistration course have been very interesting and informative. During the two 8-hour sessions, I discovered more about the OS then ever before. Until two days ago, I only had a vague idea of how linux works and could barely find my way around it. Now I know which files are loaded at startup, where are different configuration files located, what to do if something breaks, what are the run levels, how RPM works, how to configure network settings, how to mount and unmount drives, and much more, all using command line interface. And I still have to go through 16 more hours of extensive training. For those experienced in linux, it might not be a big deal. Since I am a newbie in everything, I treasure every piece of information I obtain about anything. This has been the most productive course I have ever taken in my life. I could never have learnt all of this on my own. My manager is also in the course with me, and he was so excited by the course that he is considering taking the next course, linux network administration. We are also considering going for certification but we were told the exam is so hard only 2 out of 10 clear it, and it costs a shit load of money.

I can’t wait for next weekend to attend the final two days of the course. Even though this means no off on saturday and sunday (for two consecutive weeks).
