S Shirazi has written a very good article on blogs by Pakistanis. My comments follow.
Even though its true that everyone seems to be jumping in the bandwagon and creating a blog, while not many have anything interesting to say, but, isn’t that the case for every new technology and trend? Everyone makes an attempt to try out the new stuff but only those continue to use it who are consistent and use it effectively. The quality material always filters out and stands on top. So, I think no one should be discouraged to blog.
Another reason I encourage and appreciate those who blog in Pakistan is that, unfortunately, freedom of speech is virtually non-existent in Pakistan. You have to be an eminent writer to be able to get your point across. Common people, who sometimes are very good thinkers, go unnoticed because of lack of communication skills and/or resources. Web logs have eliminated at least one of the factors, which is the lack of resources. Now, anyone can start a blog and express themselves. With a little effort, one can learn to communicate effectively. Now, imagine the possibilities if someone came up with a revolutionary idea, such as a new political or economical plan for Pakistan.
Blog on, my fellow Pakistanis!
