August 26, 2008 was the date when my wife and I were joined by a new family member. It’s a little girl we are going to call Tabeer. That explains my absence from the blog and lack of new posts. It might remain that way for next few days and until I adjust myself with this new phase of life.
Until then, feel free to send me guest poststo keep the blog rolling.
Image via WikipediaToday I test drove Honda CR-V and the experience was almost mind blowing. I have never driven such technologically advanced vehicle before. Of course these are the perks of living in Dubai that it opens the world for you by making everything available.
The first thing that I noticed in the vehicle was that the gear was just below the dashboard under the A/C and music player, instead of being in the middle of driver and front passenger seat as it usually is in other vehicles. This created the room for the storage compartment in the front row.
Second thing about the vehicle is that although it is an SUV but it feels just like a sedan. Except for the elevated view everything else is just like operating a sedan car. I guess that’s what cross-over means.
The features that impressed me were real time fuel consumption monitor, average fuel consumption and range with the remaining fuel. These features will surely make you a better driver in the long run.
The interior of the car is pretty impressive and quite roomy. Specially in the back seats there is plenty of leg room which is usually lacking even in the biggest of sedans.
Honda CR-V didn’t feel underpowered at all, as it is generally said about it. Here’s the thing. This vehicle is not made for off-road adventure. As long as you stay on the road you will never face power issues with this car. If you want to go off-road then you should consider buying Nissan X-Terra.
I don’t have any issues with the car. It’s a no brainer. I am most likely to buy a Honda CR-V in next few days.
Image via WikipediaAfter spending about 6 hours in Doha I realized that Qatar is not even close to where Dubai is today. Dubai is a decade ahead of Qatar. If you go to Qatar after living in Dubai for a while you will notice the difference immediately after landing at Doha airport. But if you have never been to Dubai and visit Qatar from the sub-continent then you might like the place. The only thing worth noticing was the skyline which looked pretty good from a distance.
I was wrong when I said that Qatar rivals Dubai. It doesn’t even come close.
Image via WikipediaBy the time you are reading this I should be in Qatar on a business trip. This trip is rather quick as I was scheduled to fly out of Dubai in the morning and return by night.
The check-in at the airport was pretty quick today. It took me less than 15 minutes from the curb to the gate. That’s mainly because it wasn’t too crowded otherwise I have waited for over hour and a half in the check-in line at the same airport.
Qatar is another emerging destination in the middle east that rivals Dubai in some aspects. The economy is largely based on oil and gas, but following the footsteps of other middle eastern countries the rulers of Qatar are trying to move away from this dependence on oil and develop other sources of income.
It’s sad I will be there for only a few hours and not be able to explore the city of Doha in greater detail.
Just last week I posted the video showing the Dubai Mall from inside during the final stages on its construction.
Today I am going to post another video about Burj Dubai, the “under-construction” tallest building in the world. This video is much better and professional as it was made for Discovery Channel.
I have launched my photo blog here. I have a passion for photography and although I have a very hectic lifestyle I try my best to take out as much time to click some photos as I can. Previously I used to post pictures on this blog but lately since my blog is focused on Dubai I didn’t find it appropriate to post pictures here that are not related to Dubai.
That’s why I decided to start a dedicated photo blog. Currently it’s not a daily blog. I make a new post on it once a week or so. But if I happen to have lots of picture to share then I might update it more frequently.
Dubai Mall, the “under-construction” biggest mall of the world, is scheduled to be open to public on October 30, 2008.
Some dude sneaked into the mall site and shot this video. Since everything is under construction, there is nothing much to be fascinated about this video, except for you get a glimpse of how construction is done in Dubai.
Nevertheless, it’s a nice video to watch as not many people would have seen the inside of biggest mall of the world while it was under construction (except for the construction workers, of course)
