I was not up to the standards of Dubai Roads and Transport Authority.
Taking the road test is an entirely different ball game than taking the driving classes.
Just taking the classes will never prepare you for the test. There is a lot more to it.
You take the classes for at least an hour and are very relaxed and cool throughout the class.
But you get less than two minutes to prove your worth in the road test. And you only get once chance. One slight mistake and you are out, no matter whether or not you could do anything about it. Even if some other car comes dangerously close to you, or a pedestrian jumps in front of you, that’s enough for you to fail the test. You have to be nothing less than perfect.
And more importantly you have to be extremely lucky. If your test happens to be during the rush hour, or there is unusual activity on the road which interrupts the smoothness of the test, or even if the inspector is not in a good mood, your chances of passing the test are significantly reduced.
I am not blaming anyone. These are real factors that influence the outcome of the road test. Not all of them are under one’s control. As for me, yes I was not perfect, I did make some mistakes that I shouldn’t have, and maybe some that I don’t know about.
So in short, RTA road test is not a walk in the park. Even the best driver in the world can fail it if the circumstances are not right.

dude i’m sorry about this. can you tell in detail what mistakes you made and how it all went? a-z?
thx.
i need to know more
You will get a second chance and im sure u will get it then.InshaAllah
yeah, details plz. What happened?
Well Umer, there is always next time. Just don’t repeat same mistake and remember one thing you can control your car not “circumstances”.
I’m very sad to hear that you didn’t pass. I hope you were given feedback on what you did wrong.
HI, no one is perfect …you make mistakes and then you learn from them..when i went for my dri lic here in usa ..i thought i will pass..but when the real test began i got so nervous and did some stupid mistakes….but thats the real challenge..once you have failed..it will make you even more stronger ..after all life is full ofchallenges..and we all are players ..cheers
thanks for your support everyone. I will make a post about details of the road test. stay tuned.
Don’t worry ,its part & parcel of Dubai life ,all asian has to go through this trauma ,i have failed 8 times in dubai ,haven’t passed yet …as you mentions other external factors matter a lot so wat a point to worry if things are not in yoour control ,just try again & again u will get some time.
lol 8 times :$
In case you have plans to move to Dubai from India , One Suggestion – DO NOT !!
5000 AED for a driving license atleast + the pain of being humiliated and treated like shit to get it
PS : if you can speak Arabic , it is a bit easy !
Beware – When you plan to shift ( specially if you are working in a decent place in India )
i think u failed to mention that this dubai driving license is a racket, in which the driving schools and examiners have a party at the cost of gullible expats (majority of indians and pakistanis). These ass holes forget that god is watching and one day they will be facing hell.
But never mind, if u have no choices, u have to keep trying. Sometimes i feel , paying for road tests each time ( it varies between 1000 to 1800 dirhams) is going in a bottom less pit with no results. WELCOME TO DUBAI THE MOST ARTIFICIAL AND HOLLOW WORLD WITH NO HUMANITY.
bijju » i was equally frustrated as you when I was unable to get the license for first two times… but now I realize that every country is unique and has it’s own procedures. And most importantly, we are all here by choice. No one is forcing us to live and work in Dubai. We made a conscious decision of working in Dubai. If someone dislikes Dubai so much, no one will stop them from moving out.
