Living in Sharjah

“Rent a place in Sharjah, invite your wife and kids from India, and then you can enjoy the good life in UAE.”

I overheard this conversation between two people in the food court of Dubai Internet City.

Apparently an experienced professional was giving advice to his new colleague on how to settle down in Dubai. He was actually telling him to live in Sharjah!

I felt really sorry for the person who had recently started his career in Dubai.

I can see him getting an apartment in Sharjah, then leaving at 6 in the morning to each office in Dubai at 9, and then leaving office at 6 in the evening to make it home by 9 at night. So much for good life.

Living in Sharjah and working in Dubai is the worst thing you can do to yourself. Yet due to high rents in Dubai and low salaries so many people are forced to do just that.

If only they had done some research before making the decision to move to the UAE, if only they had evaluated the cost of living in Dubai and their income, none of them would have come here.

I consider myself extremely lucky to live within an hour of my work place, and that also without crossing the Dubai border.

Turns out not everyone is that lucky.
