So, we learned that Dubai is a modern and expensive city with its own pros and cons. After all that discussion, the question arises that whether or not it is worth living in Dubai?
In my opinion, for someone living and working in Karachi, or anywhere else in Pakistan, it is worth every bit to live and work in Dubai if you find the right job. See, thing is, in Dubai you get the best of both worlds, it’s ultra modern with an eastern touch. And it’s only a couple of hours away from Pakistan, so you don’t have to plan weeks in advance if you want to visit home. And most important of all, Dubai has got no security issues. This is even more important for Karachiites. We have to worry about our security every moment. We can’t buy latest model cell phones because they might get snatched away. We can’t cruise in latest vehicles because the roads don’t support it. We can’t stay out until late night. There are target killings, bombings, all sorts of crimes in Karachi, and we don’t see things getting any better. This gets really frustrating at times. I think under these circumstances if ones moves to Dubai to persue a better life, it won’t be a bad decision.

Umar are you still in Karachi these days? Dubai is actually an excellent choice. Geographically it makes sense since its so near Pakistan and you are mostly right about the rest of the stuff. Infact if I were offered a competitive salary in Dubai I would move there as well!
I would like to visit DXB someday. My sis lived there for a year or so and she enjoyed it very much.
Hey Umar,
Nice blog! Came across it when I was surfing the blogosphere. Read your blog. You have lived in Texas, just like me. Which school did you attend in Dallas?
Take it from someone who has grown up there. Unless you are working for a firm with a very strong Pakistani presence, you will be treated like shit. For the average expat and local living in Dubai, you are no different from the man that constructed the building you’ll buy or rent your apartment in.
I would not move back unless God willed it…
But you never know… for some folks money is enough incentive to keep living in that racist and opressive atmosphere…After the thrill has gone, the sweet smells of your Khamsama’s cooking will lure you back… I promise…
Lovies,

S, things are different now. Time has changed. Now people work for multinational companies and they get all the benefits. But getting the right job is still a major problem, though.
Maybe you are right… maybe times have changed.. I hope so!
