Finding my way around in Dubai

I have observed that I can find my way around in Dubai with a relative ease compared to my peers. And I haven’t even started to drive.

Couple of days ago a friend of mine was lost in the streets when he called me to ask for directions. I was at home watching a movie with my lovely wife. Nevertheless, I gave him the directions and he managed to reach his destination, but I kept thinking that my friend called me for directions instead of asking someone in the street and that means I must be pretty good with directions. Even when I am in a taxi or riding with a friend, I am the one who is usually guiding the driver.

Actually, this has not much to do with Dubai. I trust my internal compass and it has not failed me very often. Usually it takes a couple of times for me to memorize how to get to a specific location. And if I drive there myself then I can never forget the route. Plus I learned a lot about whereabouts in Dubai during my adventures of riding the bus and wandering around on foot.

In this brave new world of GPS navigation systems, it’s very hard to get lost.
