Cricket World Cup 2007: My predictions

Ok, now that we know what kind of team will be playing for Pakistan in the world cup, and looking at their and other team’s performance over the last few months, I am making an attempt to predict the possible outcome of the tournament.

First, let’s list the real cricket teams in the tournament:

Australia
England
India
New Zealand
Pakistan
South Africa
Sri Lanka
West Indies
Zimbabwe

There are 9 of them. Except for Zimbabwe, really any of these teams have the potential to win the world cup. The second round, Super 8, would habe 8 teams, and I predict these 8 teams to reach the second round (unless Kenya pulls another stunt). That’s when the real world-cup will start.

Now let’s eliminate two more teams from the second round. I would pick England and West Indies as a wild guess. I would show no surprise if Pakistan gets eliminated as well, but I would keep them in for sympathetic reasons.

So we have six teams, four of which will play in the semi-finals:

Australia
India
New Zealand
Pakistan
South Africa
Sri Lanka

I would keep predicting stuff during the course of the tournament.
