Image via WikipediaOk, so, I have been living in Dubai for six months now. That is more than enough for a trial period. The most frequently asked question is how am I liking it in Dubai.
The answer is not a simple yes or no. I wish it was, but it’s a little complicated than that.
Another factor is what I am comparing my life in Dubai with. If I compare my life in Dubai at the moment with how my life was in Karachi before moving here, then it’s true that my life was a little better in Karachi.
This is because I had my own car in Karachi, with a freedom to go anywhere at anytime without relying on anyone.
Unfortunately, I have yet been unable to acquire a car in Dubai which has greatly limited my ability to get the most out of life in Dubai. I took me six months to get a driver’s license (well, the actual process took three months but when I got the license I was in Dubai for six months), so you can say that my life in Dubai has just started.
When I will have my own car in Dubai, then life here would be ten times better than Karachi.
Other than that, Dubai is a great place if you are adaptable enough. If you are not ready to make little changes to adjust yourself according to Dubai’s environment, if you are too rigid and stubborn to accept the eccentricities of Dubai, then it can be a worst experience for you.
Thing is, Dubai is in the middle of identity crises. Somewhere between the super fast development and change, Dubai has forgotten what it really wants to be. That rather unorganized and haphazard behavior of Dubai is what makes people dislike this place (other than extremely hot weather). My strategy under the circumstances is to watch things patiently as in general things are improving. So if something is annoying today, it might not be as annoying tomorrow. In the mean time, just adjust yourself accordingly and find a workaround.
The best thing about Dubai is the low crime rate. It’s pretty safe in Dubai anywhere you go. This was one thing missing (among others) when I lived in Karachi, and it’s one of the major reasons I moved out of Karachi.
And finally, how can you ignore all the mega projects, biggest everything, and all the options available in fashion, electronics, and automobile industry?
Just keep in mind that Dubai is for those who can afford it.

Umar, you are doing a good service to Dubai. It is hard to resist the temptation of moving to Dubai after reading your posts.
